Photographic Versatility and Enjoyment
The Pentax XG-1 Digital Camera is a far-reaching camera with a 52x optical zoom lens featuring a 35mm equivalent focal length of 24-1,248mm and a variable aperture of f/2.8-5.6, providing you with a wide-angle to super telephoto perspective. For capturing images, the camera features a 16-megapixel 1/2.3" backside-illuminated CMOS image sensor capable of shooting up to ISO 3200. Also, it has 60 and 30 fps high speed continuous shooting modes as well as a Sensor-Shift Shake Reduction system for sharp photographs at super telephoto focal lengths, low-light shooting, and movie recording.
Composition and playback with the XG-1 is possible with two options, either the 3.0" 460k-dot LCD or a 0.2" 200k-dot electronic viewfinder. The camera also features full high definition 1920 x 1080 video recording at 30 fps and a slow motion 640 x 480p mode at 120 fps. This speed is available with stills as well with high speed continuous shooting available at 60 fps at 640 x 480 pixels and 30 fps at 4 megapixels, or 2,304 x 1,728 pixels. Full resolution continuous is available at 10 fps.
Other capabilities of the camera are macro focusing as close as 0.4" and a Micro HDMI port that allows for the streaming of video to a TV or other display. Complementing the XG-1's technology are a High Dynamic Range mode which creates a single image from three different exposures and multiple scene modes for shooting. These modes include Digital Panorama and Face Beautifier and can be used with 19 digital filters for more creativity. Additionally, the camera records images to SD/SDHC memory cards and is compatible with Eye-Fi cards.
16MP 1/2.3" BSI CMOS Image Sensor
The 1/2.3" backside-illuminated CMOS sensor present in the XG-1 provides imagery with low noise due to an ISO range of 100-3200. It is capable of producing high resolution 16-megapixel photographs as well as record full high definition 1920 x 1080 video at 30 fps. The sensor can also capture images at speeds of up to 60 fps at 0.3 megapixels, 30 fps at 4 megapixels, or 10 fps at 16 megapixels. Slow motion video recording is available as well with 120 fps at 640 x 480. There is also a Handheld Night Scene mode that captures low noise, blur-free night photos by taking multiple images and compositing them together.
smc PENTAX 52x Optical Zoom Lens
With a focal length of 4.3-223.6mm, this smc PENTAX 52x optical lens has a 35mm equivalent of 24-1,248mm for wide angle to super telephoto shooting. The lens construction features 15 elements in 13 groups, including 6 aspherical elements to control distortions and aberrations. Also, it has a variable aperture of f/2.8-5.6.
Sensor-Shift Shake Reduction Image Stabilization
The sensor-shift-type Shake Reduction system works to counteract the effects of camera shake on your images, resulting in sharper photographs. This functions by using a gyro sensor which then shifts the image sensor vertically and horizontally to achieve the necessary anti-shake effect.
LCD Screen and Electronic Viewfinder
For composing and playback, the XG-1 has two options, a large 3.0" 460k-dot LCD display on the rear of the camera or a 0.2" 200k-dot electronic viewfinder. The LCD works for most general purpose shooting and display purposes while the electronic viewfinder helps in situations where lighting obscures the view of the LCD.
